The Midland and East Coast Region is one of 9 GMB Regions across the UK. We cover an area traditionally known as the East Midlands, Humberside and the East Riding of Yorkshire. The Region stretches from Scarborough in the north, to Wellingborough in the south and from Boston in the east, to Buxton in the west.

GMB POSITION REGARDING ENGLAND, WALES & NI LOCAL GOVERNMENT STRIKE ACTION

Unison members have voted for local government strike action and Unite is expected to follow suit.  That action is likely to start with a 2-day strike on 16/17 July, and be continuous.

Although we support this action GMB members will not be going on strike.  This is why:

GMB Advice to Members Regarding Local Government NJC Industrial Action on 16 & 17 July 2008

The Unison and Unite trade unions plan to take strike action on 16 and 17 July in local government including schools.
Only members of those unions are going on strike, and they represent possibly up to half of the workforce.
GMB members are not on strike.  Therefore for GMB members the 16 and 17 July are normal working days.
