We offer:
- Query Service: we can tackle the full range of health and safety problems and offer second opinions.
- Information: GMB publishes a large range of information (see Health and Safety Publications) which can be ordered from our offices. Lots of other health and safety information can be accessed via the internet including the GMB’s national website. Use the links page to access GMB recommended information sources. Typical of our information are the Most Asked Questions that deal with health and safety.
- Workplace Visits: sometimes it takes face to face discussions to sort out problems. The Regional Health and Safety Officer (through your organiser) is available to visit, inspect workplaces and discuss improvements with your employer.
- Campaigns and Conferences: We are affiliated to the Hazards Campaign - a network of activists from all trade unions. We encourage all Branches and Safety Reps to subscribe to Hazards magazine. We support Workers Memorial Day on April 28th each year and keep reps updated through seminars and conferences.
- Immediate Help: in the case of serious risk of immediate danger workers have the legal right to withdraw from the vicinity of the hazard. The Government’s Safety Inspectors have the power to visit the workplace at any time and investigate or stop the job or enforce improvements or take employers to court.
