Employment tribunals

Unfortunately we don’t live in an ideal world and you may find at some time in your working life that things aren’t going to plan. You may find yourself in a terrible situation where you are suffering from racial or sexual harassment, disability discrimination, you may have been unfairly dismissed or had an unlawful deduction taken from your wages. If one of these things have happened to you, don’t worry - as a GMB member we can help you with your problems.

In the first instance you must always contact your local representative and raise these issues formally in writing as a grievance, to give your employer the opportunity to put things right. You may then have the option to pursue your claim via an Employment Tribunal. Applications must be made on the correct ET1 form which you can obtain from your local GMB Office or alternatively from Regional Office on 0115 9607171. When submitting Employment Tribunals claims you must be aware that strict time limits must be adhered to, namely within three months from the date the incident took place. When a written greivance is raised, a three month extension is then given to submit your ET1 form. Please note that if the time limits are exceeded, applications will not be accepted.

If you require any information in respect of employment law issues, contact your workplace rep or organiser.
