Personal injury - work-related and non-work-related

If you are unlucky enough to be injured in an accident through no fault of your own or you are suffering from a disease that has been caused by your work you are entitled to full legal representation through your GMB membership.

If you’re injured whilst you are at work, you must in the first instance advise your local Shop Steward or Branch Secretary.

The GMB will appoint Thompsons Solicitors to investigate your claim completely free of charge and you will get to keep 100% of any settlement. Registering a claim is very easy; all you need to do is ring our free phone personal injury line number on 0800 5877533. The service is available between 9.00am and 8.00pm Monday to Friday. It’s quick and simple with no forms to fill in. Or if you prefer, complete an application online

There are many industrial diseases which you can also claim for, too many to mention, but some examples are

  • Industrial Deafness
  • Vibration White Finger
  • Asbestosis
  • Tenosynovitis

Again, to register a claim just ring 0800 5877533.

You may have encountered an assault at work or been involved in a road traffic accident. Again, if you have suffered an injury, ring the above number.

In addition as part of your GMB membership your family members are also covered for all out of work accidents. This could be your mum tripping up on the pavement, your brother slipping in the supermarket or even your daughter being injured in the school playground or your son being injured in a road traffic accident.

When you ring the number they will ask you for your Membership Number and Branch name - these details are given on your membership card. If you cannot locate it, not to worry, just ring Regional Office on 0115 9607171, who will be happy to provide you with this information.

Please note, all personal injury claims/diseases, must be pursued within three years from the date of the accident or diagnosis of the disease. For criminal injuries i.e. assaults, the time scale is two years.

If there’s one number you’ll need to remember along with the other emergency services, it’s this one: 0800 5877533.

Submit an application online through the GMB website.
