GMB Advice to Members Regarding Local Government NJC Industrial Action on 16 & 17 July 2008
If your place of work is closed on the strike days you should notify your employer that you are available for work to ensure you get paid.
If your place of work has an official picket line and you are intimidated by the picket and feel unable to safely cross it, you should notify your employer immediately that you tried to attend work and explain why you were unable to do so; this should ensure that you get paid.
If you attend work on the strike days you should only undertake your normal work and you should not be asked to carry out duties normally done by those on strike. The only exception would be in a life threatening situation.
Unison and Unite have not notified GMB of the details of their strikes on 16 and 17 July so our advice can only be general. Contact your GMB office for advice on situations not covered by this note.
