HULL CAMPAIGN AGAINST THE CUTS MEETING

On Tuesday 25 January 2011 the ‘Hull Campaign Against The Cuts’ held a public meeting at the Royal Station Hotel, the meeting was a culmination of months of campaigning and demonstrating against the savage cuts at Hull City Council with thousands of redundancies already proposed or in the pipeline.
Some 200 people attended with a good turn out from GMB members and reps and also community groups. Councillor Brady, Leader of the Labour Group spoke to the meeting and gave assurances of no compulsory redundancies if Labour gets back into power in Hull.
Vanessa Rowe (Hull No 1 Branch President) got up and said that the GMB representatives and members would hold him to his word.
Linda Dobbs, GMB Shop Steward explained how the council were not taking responsibility for the school meals service and were hiding behind budgets.
Shaune Clarkson gave a down to earth practical, rallying speech urging everyone to attend the mass demonstration on Saturday 26 March 2011 (detailed below) he put forward the GMB position with regard to the cuts and also explained what the situation was with members who are under direct threat.
