Negotiations Continue on New Local Government Pension Scheme
P2/12
26th January 2012
NEGOTIATIONS CONTINUE ON NEW LOCAL GOVERNMENT PENSION SCHEME
The new LGPS negotiations between GMB, Unison (Unite have still not decided to take part) and the LGA (representing the employers) are continuing on a weekly basis in line with the principles agreed between unions and employers that government have accepted should form the basis of the new scheme to be introduced in 2014. These negotiations resulted from the 30th November strike and are instead of government’s previous plan to impose a 50% increase to member contribution rates and to massively reduce benefits.
The timescale for the negotiations is very tight, but those involved are committed to making progress so that ultimately the details of the new scheme can be put to members for consultation. More detail on timescales and the mechanics of the negotiations can be found here:

While these negotiations are continuing there will not be any changes imposed by government. GMB remains determined to negotiate the best possible new scheme for the LGPS covered workforce that can be put to members who will decide whether it is acceptable or not.
I will keep you up to date with the progress of the negotiations and I expect to have something concrete to report next month.
