Equal pay in the NHS and Local Government
Throughout Local Government and NHS the GMB has been fighting to achieve equal pay. Whether by single status pay and grading deals in Councils or by Agenda for Change in the NHS, the low paid, mainly women, workers who have been under valued for so long now have a real chance to improve their pay and career prospects.

GMB welcomes announcement at Labour Party Conference of new national negotiating body for School Staff. GMB Hails this as ‘the best news ever for school support staff and pupils.
STOP PRESS!!!!! GMB members across local government have now voted on the 2007 pay offer - which is 2.475% with a new minimum £6 hourly rate. The vote shows a 7-to-1 majorty to ACCEPT the offer.
Local Government Pay 2008
At a national negotiating meeting of the local government NJC Executive yesterday (19 March) the employers made a 2.2% offer. There will be a further meeting on 2 April when I expect an improved, final offer will be made on which we will consult members.
