Union Solicitors shame no win, no fee companies

Thompsons Solicitors have won £2,000 for a GMB member’s wife whose claims was turned down by “no win no fee” lawyers.

GMB MEMBERS IN THE HEALTH SERVICE VOTE TO REJECT LONG TERM PAY DEAL


Local Government Pay 2008

GMB local government members have voted 4-to-1 to accept this year’s pay offer.  The offer was 2.45% with higher amounts (3.3%) for the lowest three spinal column points 4, 5 and 6.  It is due to be backdated to April but we await the decision of other unions who are balloting their members.


GMB Advice to Members Regarding Local Government NJC Industrial Action on 16 & 17 July 2008

The Unison and Unite trade unions plan to take strike action on 16 and 17 July in local government including schools.
Only members of those unions are going on strike, and they represent possibly up to half of the workforce.
GMB members are not on strike.  Therefore for GMB members the 16 and 17 July are normal working days. 


GMB POSITION REGARDING ENGLAND, WALES & NI LOCAL GOVERNMENT STRIKE ACTION

Unison members have voted for local government strike action and Unite is expected to follow suit.  That action is likely to start with a 2-day strike on 16/17 July, and be continuous.

Although we support this action GMB members will not be going on strike.  This is why:

Hull Branch Forum Veterans Weekend Event

This event was a celebration of veterans in the Hull area with participants from all sections of the forces; both days were full of both young and old from all sections of the local community. The GMB stall was visited by veterans who form part of our retired members - all were dressed in smart uniforms and it was nice to speak to members and share their experiences.
