  2. NHS STRIKE ACTION

    GMB Members voted 4 to 1 in favour of strike action. The result was 78% in favour of strike action and 91% in favour of action short of a strike.

     GMB members say enough is enough and vote for strike action and action short of a strike.

  3. TUC demonstration October 2014

    The TUC is organising a mass demonstration in London, making the case that Britain Needs a Pay Rise.

    It will take place on Saturday 18 October 2014 and will begin with a march through central London, culminating in a rally in Hyde Park

  4. NHS BALLOT OPEN UNTIL 1 OCTOBER

    If you are a GMB member working for the NHS, you will soon be receiving a voting paper for an official GMB Industrial Action Ballot. This is about the Government’s refusal to honour a decent NHS pay rise as recommended by the independent Pay Review Body.

  5. 10TH JULY 2014 DAY OF ACTION

    As you will be aware many of the Trade Unions took part in the day of action on 10th July 2014.  I have to say that I am extremely proud of the GMB and its sister trade Unions in its turn out for this demonstration and march along with the picket line which was solidly manned by all of the trade unions.  (more…)

    Three new commissioners appointed to the Low Pay Commission.
    Three new commissioners have been appointed to the Low Pay Commission, Business Minister Jenny Willott announced today (18 June 2014).
    Neil Carberry, Brian Strutton and Richard Dickens take up their new roles today. They replace Susan Anderson, Heather Wakefield and Professor Stephen Machin who are standing down.
    The appointments are for 3 years, with the option of reappointment.

  7. GMB Congress Supports Local Food Bank

    The TUUT Charitable Trust and TU Fund Managers supported by the local GMB-Midland & East Coast Region invited delegates at the 2014 GMB Conference held in Nottingham to support a local Foodbank by bringing in food or donating their loose change during Conference week.

  8. IMPERIAL TOBACCO CLOSURE

     Imperial Tobacco announced on 15th April 2014 at 10.30am the total closure of the Nottingham site, Horizon Factory.  Therefore 570 employees will lose their jobs and 170 will be relocated.  Of this, some 200 GMB members will be in the mix, due to the company deciding to move lock stock and barrel over to Eastern Europe.  (more…)

  9. Workers Memorial Day 28th April 2014 Scarborough Town Hall

    Scarborough branch activists Paul Fenn and Paul Mclean, along with Regional Organiser Dave Oglesby, attended the memorial service at Scarborough Town Hall this year,
    Paul Fenn, workplace organiser at McCains laid a wreath on behalf of the Scarborough & North Yorks Community Branch – S23 who had sponsored the event and Dave Oglesby laid a wreath on behalf of the Midlands and East Coast Region and spoke on the subject of health and safety (more…)
